01

Capacity Building

Equipping people to work on Mental Health issues

We strengthen the knowledge, skills and confidence of individuals and organisations to work effectively on mental health issues. As a resource organisation, we also support emerging organisations focused on mental health, community development and human rights.

02

Community Mental Health

Developing accessible and quality services

We catalyse access to integrated community-based mental health care, strengthening systemic and community health and social structures to enhance Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), alongside anti-stigma awareness creation.

03

Secure Livelihoods

Creating opportunities for affected people

Through socioeconomic rehabilitation, we support practical initiatives to secure recovery and livelihoods for people with mental health conditions or epilepsy, their primary caregivers and families.

04

Policy Advocacy & Research

Generating and applying real-world evidence

We generate and apply real-world evidence to inform policy and practice decisions. Through rights-based public policy advocacy, we work to improve equity and empower persons with lived experience to participate fully in development processes, social protection and inclusive public policy and services.

BasicNeeds-Ghana convenes the Ghana Mental Health Alliance, a network of community-based, non-governmental and civil society organisations in mental health and disability, including individuals with lived experience. The Alliance focuses on inclusive public policies — especially the NHIS, the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and social protection schemes — and the integration of mental health into primary health care.

05

Collaboration

Forging partnerships to improve mental health provision

We engage and collaborate with state and governmental agencies and non-state actors, particularly community-based organisations, to implement interventions — serving variously as grant manager and resource organisation. We are open to partnerships that advance maternal mental health, especially for vulnerable women and adolescent girls who have survived gender-based violence, or are living with or at risk of HIV/TB.

We are a member of the Global Mental Health Action Network, led by United for Global Mental Health; the Mental Health Track of Catalyst Now; NETRIGHT; and the Coalition of NGOs in Health.
