This is an eighteen-month (August 2023 – July 2025) project, funded by the UNDP Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (UNDP-AFCIA) supporting dry season vegetable gardening in 10 communities. The project supports 200 direct beneficiaries, 140 women and 60 men, including people with mental health conditions or epilepsy, caregivers, and vulnerable widows. It promotes vegetable gardening and rearing of small ruminants for sustainable livelihoods, while promoting sustainable and climate resilient agricultural practices among the project beneficiaries.
The project seeks to enhance climate resilience, food security, and well-being across in ten communities across four districts in three regions: West Mamprusi Municipality (Bugiya, Takorayili) in North-East Region; Talensi District (Gbeogo, Baare) in the Upper East Region; and Kumbungu District (Voggu, Kpalisogu, Gbulung), Savelugu Municipality (Zaazi, Bihinaayili, Nyoglo) both in Northern Region.
The intervention specifically addresses some key socio-economic challenges of vulnerable women by empowering them to self-employment, food and income security and giving them voice to become development advocates, with improved public attitude and acceptance and reduction in societal stigma.
